The Pirate restaurant, Bo Phut Koh Samui chef Parn

I have been dying to do a Thai cooking class ever since I stepped off the plane in Bangkok. However we didn’t stop in Bangkok and took a connection to Koh Samui. I have been doing a lot of research into Thai cooking courses in Koh Samui and feel they have been asking a lot of money for not a lot in return. Most Thai cooking courses on the island start at 1200 Thai baht and nowhere is less than that and no where seemed to offer what I was looking for.

As luck would have it our Thai cooking coursefavourite restaurant on Koh Samui, The Pirate offered to put on a Thai cooking class for me. Parn used to work as a chef at a big resort before opening The Pirate with his brother Bem. So needless to say Parn was a natural teacher, with perfect English, very patient and always wears a very friendly smile.

He was so good I would be disappointed if they didn’t consider doing this for other visitors to the island, they would be so popular with everyone.

We agreed our menu the day before and I was extremely excited about it;

  • Thai cooking classTom Yam Goong
  • Prawn Pad Thai
  • Chicken green curry

Three absolutely classic and beautiful Thai dishes that sum up Thai cooking perfectly. I make all of these dishes at home and the more I practice I have seen improvements in my cooking, but the teaching and tips I received from Parn were invaluable and now I can make these dishes as easily as I would make scrambled egg at home.
